MOUNTAIN FLYING FAMILIARIZATION COURSE

Consists of 8 hours of training: 4 hours of ground instruction
                                             4 hours of flight instruction

Ground Instruction:
Familiarization with mountainous terrain, mountain airport, planning flights into and out of mountainous areas; High-altitude flying, including determining pressure altitude, aircraft performance, safe operating altitudes, physiological effects of high altitude flying, personal equipment for high-altitude flying; Mountain weather, effects of wind, standing wave clouds, ceilings, visibility, thunderstorms, weather forecasts and obtaining current weather information; Mountain flying, flying in mountain winds, exiting downdrafts, crossing ridges, sensory illusions, night flying, mountain flying safety.

Flight Instruction:
Training flight from Minden-Tahoe Airport (MEV) elevation 4717 feet msl to Truckee-Tahoe Airport (TRK) elevation 5900 feet msl, to Quincy Airport (201) elevation 3414 feet msl, to South Lake Tahoe Airport (TVL) elevation 6264 msl and return to Minden-Tahoe Airport. Multiple landings and takeoffs at each airfield to familiarize the pilot with different approaches and departures.

Cost: Call for cost (includes aircraft) Maximum 2 persons for each course. Course fee may be divided equally between the 2 persons.

Qualifies as a flight review per FAR 61.56
